Meet the Sales Development Representative Team at Turing

What is it like to be a Sales Development Representative (SDR) at Turing? Well, you get flexibility, freedom, and excellent culture, say the people on the job!

What it’s like to be a Sales Development Representative (SDR) at Turing?

Darshan Khemka answers!

Sales Development Representative (SDR) at Turing

Darshan Khemka: Sales Development Representative (SDR) at Turing

Kehmka recalls when his recruiter called to extend an offer to join Turing. “I still remember I was on tour to South India while interviewing with Turing in August 2022. The remote first workplace was something I was looking to join to keep up with my love for traveling. Then I realized this is the opportunity I have always been waiting for…let’s just go with it. So this was my ‘I saw the opportunity and I took it’ moment. My tour continued till October 2022; Turing’s remote first policy and work culture has always supported my passion while I worked full time.”

Now a Growth Specialist, Darshan’s work involves researching prospective clients, making cold calls, and generating meetings that can result in revenue for Turing. His day-to-day tasks include researching prospective customers, making calls, follow-ups, pipeline building, and tracking daily activities. Darshan is also involved in running the SMS Magic campaign. “I am loving working at Turing—processes here are extremely streamlined. You know, this is my third organization, and this is the first organization where there’s literally no micromanagement in sales, which is very, very rare, and a lot of freedom has been given to us,” he explains.

Darshan loves playing and watching football. He also loves traveling —it’s not uncommon for Darshan to explore new cities, and Turing provides him the flexibility to work from anywhere.

“Wherever there’s the internet I can work whether it’s raining cats and dogs, snowing, or 50°C, I can always work,” he grins.

Summing up his experience as an SDR at Turing, he says “I’m enjoying those eight hours because I’m just working and I’m not being pestered or micromanaged by anyone. The team believes in collaborative efforts; everyone is there to support each other. About work—most of the youth will relate as well—people are hired to do a particular thing and then are asked to do 10+ additional tasks. Here at Turing, we are doing what we are hired to do, we are not piled up with unnecessary tasks. No interference, everything is good. I am loving it here at Turing.”

Here’s what Michael Oppong has to say about his journey in Turing!

Sales Development Representative (SDR) at Turing

Michael Oppong: Sales Development Representative (SDR) at Turing

Michael Oppong is a Sales Development Representative at Turing. He joined Turing almost a year back, and his experience has been full of learning and growth since then.

A large part of what sold Michael on Turing is its feedback culture.  He values that the organization constantly welcomes feedback – no matter when it takes place.  During the SDR interview process, Michael interviewed with Senior Growth Manager Anurag Gupta, and Anurag wanted to share with Michael what he should highlight in his background for subsequent interviews.

“Even during my interview process Anurag shared feedback with me, guided me on things to prepare so I can perform to my full potential in the next rounds, and took the time to educate me about the team and their goals. I thought someone who has not even hired me but is very much interested in sharing his knowledge with me must be a great person to work with and a great place to explore my potential,” he remembers.

In his own words, what keeps Michael going is his empathetic and supportive team. “For me, I like everything about Turing, but particularly I really like having one-on-one conversations with my direct manager Arun because his feedback and inputs have helped me a lot in improving myself as an SDR.”

According to Michael, this feedback helps him take corrective action over mistakes and stay aligned with what’s expected of him.

“Apart from work, we also have virtual hangout sessions,” Michael continues. “On Friday we all gather on a Zoom call with drinks in hand and talk about random stuff apart from work like what’s happening around the world and everyone’s interests/hobbies. It’s super fun.”

In addition to having a strong team, Michael finds Turing’s workplace to be a significant factor that attracted him to the company. “What I love the most is the work environment. It is very empowering, and everyone helps each other grow. There is a sense of collectivism that Turing encourages, and one thing I would like to point out is the respect that everyone offers. I remember when I got my first client meeting cracked and the way everyone appreciated—it was such a confidence boost for me!”

Sharing what he loves to do outside of work hours,  Michael says “… I would probably be watching a show or a series or playing football which is a great passion of mine. I also love the flexibility Turing offers which helps me enjoy my time with my family and do things I am most passionate about.”

Summing up his experience as an SDR at Turing, Michael says that Turing has been his dream company to work for. “I live in Ghana. Turing is one of the prominent organizations here—you can see Turing all over the place, on Linkedin, Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. It has its place. When I got an invite to apply for the Sales Development Representative role, I got really excited. It was truly memorable for me. Probably one of the happiest days ever!”

Turing is leveraging AI for hiring
For Employers Turing Community Turing News Vetted Talent Vetting and Hiring

How Turing Is Leveraging AI for Matching and Evaluating Developers?

Turing uses gradient booster, logistic regression, decision trees, and a few other techniques to vet and match developers with their dream jobs.

How does Turing use artificial intelligence for vetting and matching candidates? Does Turing use machine learning? How does Turing use machine learning? How does the Turing test relate to AI?

Looking for answers to these questions? Keep reading.

Most businesses fail to identify the right talent, which is why many companies complain that they can’t find suitable individuals for important roles. In the United States alone, there are over six million job searchers and over seven million unfilled positions.

Most managers use biased hiring techniques

Today, job satisfaction is an exception rather than a base. According to a recent study, up to 70 percent of highly talented people are reportedly open to switching to more fulfilling and interesting careers. Why? Because globally, hiring managers overemphasize hard skills at the expense of the more crucial soft skills or use intuitive and biased hiring techniques, like the unstructured job interview, to decide who gets the job.

Such prejudice, bias, and discrimination are pervasive, while predictive evaluations and data-driven techniques are frequently underutilized. Thus, these hiring practices make recruitment and hiring processes outdated.

In short, it’s critical to make traditional approaches more efficient and meritocratic, especially when technological advancements are already around us, allowing us to forecast, comprehend, and match people at scale.

Biased hiring techniques lead to biased decision making

Most interviewing procedures are generally unstructured and subject to the interviewer’s whims and fancies. These unsystematic procedures lead to biased decision-making because interviewers express and attempt to confirm their own views, making the hiring process wasteful and ineffective.

How is Turing leveraging AI for matching and vetting developers?

Turing uses machine learning for vetting and matching.

Turing CEO Jonathan Sidharth says: “At Turing, we have thousands of developers going through our intelligent vetting process. And hence, we have the perfect data set to do supervised machine learning. We have data from our vetting that generates all of these rich input features. Using different algorithms, we are able to tell which developers end up passing our vetting process and which developers end up failing. We can then use this data to predict the probability that a developer would get an answer to a question right that they haven’t even seen yet.”

“This process helps us make our vetting very efficient. Resultantly, a developer doesn’t have to spend a ton of time on Turing developer tests. If they get concepts a, b, and c right, we can predict the probability that they’ll get concepts d and e right. This is a magical experience where we are using machine learning to auto-complete the gaps in the vetting process.” he further adds.

The beauty of this vetting process is it generates input features for our matching and ranking algorithms, similar to how Google uses machine-learned ranking to match a document with a keyword.

Jonathan says, “Turing is also using machine-learned ranking to match a developer’s profile with the job. Here again, we use supervised machine learning. We use gradient booster, decision trees, logistic regression, and a few other techniques to predict the probability whether a developer will be successful in a job with a customer.”

The benefits of matching candidates with AI recommendation engine

  1. Remove the issues of keyword searches with contextual evaluation
Companies don’t overlook candidates with AI-based recommendations. Candidates that (A) don’t have aesthetically appealing CVs and/or (B) didn’t grasp the proper keywords from JD but might be a perfect fit, get a highlighted recommendation.

  2. Reduce bias and improve the quality of the recruitment process
AI matching can give the hiring process a neutral perspective. Turing’s AI considers a candidate’s complete background and set of talents. The applicant’s age, gender, and race have no bearing on the score.

  3. Attract the right candidates and receive fewer irrelevant applications
With Turing’s AI automatically identifying the most suited opportunities for candidates, businesses save time and recruit more effectively.

Turing CEO on Why Developers Choose Turing for Finding Remote Software Engineering Jobs

Turing provides amazing remote software engineering jobs in top US companies like Coinbase, Disney, OpenAI, Salesforce, and many more.

We now live in a remote-first world. Every company is in a race to reap the benefits of remote engineering talent. Companies like Airbnb, Coinbase, Twitter, Square, and Rivian have already turned into fully remote enterprises and are offering remote software engineering jobs. Even traditional companies like Siemens and Ford have switched to remote.

However, the situation is not so hunky dory on the other side. In this blog post, Jonathan Siddharth, Turing CEO and co-founder, explains how and why Turing jobs can help developers build their dream engineering careers.

It is challenging for developers to get noticed in a job market with a global talent pool.

As a developer, getting noticed in the global talent pool can be challenging. You can get lost among the millions of engineers and developers when looking for a job.

With a traditional job hunt, you only have two options:

  1. Apply directly to your dream companies
  2. Go to a job marketplace.

Traditional job markets may not offer you the best opportunities.

There can be nothing better than getting a direct job. But how do you do that? In addition, the industry has a limited number of direct jobs and tremendous competition.

And so, you’re left with no option but to enter the job marketplace, where most jobs are unexciting and monotonous. You might not be building products, or you might not be working on cool technologies, or in many cases, you might be working on a project nobody really cares about.

In addition, these are often short-term gigs, which leave a hanging sword over your career.

So, at Turing, we asked ourselves a few simple questions.

  1. What if there was a new category of work that combined the stability of working directly with a large company with the ease of a marketplace?
  2. What if you had access to a job opportunity where you worked directly with companies, building products on the latest tech stacks, and these engagements were long-term engagements?
  3. What if you had access to career guidance and mentorship?
  4. What if you never had to interview again?

This is why we built A Talent Cloud. Turing’s Intelligent Talent Cloud uses AI to source, vet, match, and manage over 3 million developers worldwide. This feature helps organizations save valuable time and resources as they build their dream engineering teams.

Turing company gives developers access to fantastic remote software engineering jobs. Some companies offering top US software jobs at Turing include Coinbase, Salesforce, Disney, OpenAI, and many more.

You never have to interview again once Turing’s AI engine vets you. You will have access to our support for lifelong matching. Once your engagement with a company ends, Turing matches you to your next long-term engagement.

Why do developers love Turing?

  1. Elite US jobs with great compensation
Turing’s developers earn better than market pay in most countries, working with top US companies.

  2. High career growth
Turing developers grow rapidly by working on challenging technical and business problems with the latest technologies.

  3. Access to an exclusive developer community
All developers get access to upskilling workshops, career development sessions, networking meetups, and a lot more with the Turing Community. The Turing community aims to equip all developers with the tools to supercharge their engineering careers.

  4. Access to long-term jobs
Turing engagements are full-time and long-term. As one project nears completion, the Turing team immediately identifies the next best job opportunity for developers.

  5. 100+ skills across seniorities
Developers can apply for jobs in 100+ programming skills, including React, Node, Python, Angular, Swift, React Native, Android, Java, Rails, Golang, DevOps, ML, Data Engineers, and more.

What do developers have to say about Turing?

Tiago, an experienced software engineer, shared his Turing.com review. He said: “I participated in a Turing developer test that was created by the top Google executives, Facebook engineering leaders, and Stanford AI scientists to find the world’s top engineers. The interviewers carefully reviewed my assignments based on both subjective and objective standards. I was hired by one of Turing’s clients after acing the interview process there”.

Hernan, a talented Turing developer from Bogota, Colombia, said he discovered the value of spending time with friends and family with a Turing job. He iterates, “I feel like I am Cristiano Ronaldo and Turing is my manager. I don’t have to send CVs to companies. Turing finds the best opportunities for me. I have someone whom I can trust, who will never let me down and will always try to give me the best career options”.

Similarly, praising Turing’s work culture, a full-stack developer, Peter from Nigeria, says, “When I wake up and work every day, I know Turing is actually helping developers from around the world find perfect jobs to grow and succeed. Knowing that is where I work feels amazing!”.

How to become a Turing developer?

Here is how you can become a Turing developer

  1. Create your profile – Fill in your details – Name, location, skills, salary, & experience.
  2. Take Turing developer tests and interviews – Solve questions and appear for a technical interview.
  3. Receive job offers – Get matched with the best US and Silicon Valley companies.
  4. Start working on your dream job – Once you join Turing, you’ll never have to apply for another job.

Bottom line

Turing is not a gig platform. Turing jobs aim to help developers build rewarding software engineering careers. It’s very easy to get started. You only have to do one thing: Go to Turing.com and take your first test. These tests only take a couple of hours.

Once you are vetted by Turing, you’re set for life. Turing offers lifelong matching with no more hunting for gigs. Also, Turing jobs are long-term work opportunities that can truly shape and change your career for the better.

Turing Community Announces Panel Discussion: How Top Companies Hire Technical Talent

Attend the panel discussion on “How Top Companies Hire Technical Talent” to learn what companies want from prospective technical employees.

What makes top tech companies tick? Their world-class technical talent base, of course! These tech giants have effective processes to attract, recruit, and retain the best talent. But there’s an apparent shortage of exceptional talent, and to acquire that talent, companies are ready to pay more and offer the flexibility to work from anywhere.

However, because the talent picked is world-class, the selection ratio from the total number of applications can be remarkably small. For example, at Google, only 1 in 130-150 applicants get through—that’s 0.7 percent. The success rate at companies like Apple and Facebook is equally low

So, what do these companies look for? How do they select the best technical talent? What processes do they have in place? How do you get your foot in the door at these companies? These questions worry developers looking for jobs at these companies.

To address these questions, Turing Community is organizing a panel discussion on “How Top Companies Hire Technical Talent” on Aug 29, 2022. In this panel discussion, tech leaders and seasoned hiring managers will reveal what top companies look for when hiring technical employees.

Working in Silicon Valley at 20 Is No Small Feat!

When we say Turing jobs are boundaryless, we mean it! Take a look at Jeremy’s journey with Turing as our youngest software developer. Fact: He’s just 20 years old.

Meet Jeremy, one of our youngest professionals working at Turing.

At only 20 years old, he’s working in Silicon Valley with a Turing customer. Jeremy is passionate about coding and sharing his love for his profession. He shared his story and tips to help software developers boost their careers!

Turing jobs

Life before Turing jobs

“I was 17 when I started coding professionally.  You must do an internship in the Dominican Republic once you finish high school.  When I started considering learning professionally, the coding community I was participating in offered me an internship and then said: “Yep, we want to keep you” After that, I created a LinkedIn account because I saw other teammates [doing it.] A year later, because of LinkedIn, I started networking, and the founder of another company working for an American client contacted me to join them. It was probably my first interview, and it went great,” he explains.

Network. Network. Network.

From a very young age, Jeremy has learned the value of networking. He says:

“People should network. Share what they are doing, share what they’re learning and try to help others on their way. I believe this is important because it opens several doors for you and helps you learn more. When you can explain something, you have greater chances of understanding the fundamentals of that topic.”

Leverage social media

“The idea that got me started was the following: I should not use my development skills only for a job. I’d still get the job and work on some cool projects, but I’d also help others do the same. That’s what I decided to do. I shared my journey, the things I’m learning, the things I want to learn, some tips, and some suggestions, on Twitter. I am just starting there, I barely have like 400 followers, but every day I get messages from people asking me questions,” Jeremy smiles.

Related post: Turing Review: How Much Do Developers Earn with Turing?

“And I have met many people [sharing great content on] their own Twitter handles. So I suggest skilled senior developers teach people to do some stuff with what they know. It will be rewarding. And he adds: I remember one YouTuber that helped me learn technical skills, like variant structures and algorithms that I used for the Turing interview, and now we both follow each other on Twitter. That was amazing for me. “

He advises sharing content on social media with the goal of networking: “Try to find something that you think you’ll like best. In my case, it was Twitter because I thought of simplicity since I already have a job. I wanted something that allowed me to provide content without risking anything else. Find something that resonates with you and just start doing it.”

Consistency is everything

“I do like to say that, in the beginning, quantity is more important than quality. The more you do, the more you practice. That is when the quality comes in. If you’re planning to do it, just start. It doesn’t matter if the content is not very good at the beginning. If you continue practicing, it will get better,” Jeremy concludes.

LGBTQ Community in Tech: Inspiring Pride Stories at Turing.com

The LGBTQ Community celebrates Pride Month to raise awareness for LGBTQ people. This Pride Day, Turing.com is celebrating its LGBTQ members and their stories.

Pride Month honors the successes of LGBTQ people and the decades-long fight for equal justice. In addition, Pride Month raises awareness about giving equal opportunities to LGBTQ talent at schools, colleges, and workplaces. The LGBTQ community celebrates Pride Month in June each year.

The LGBTQ community has made significant contributions to the tech industry. Pioneers like Alan Turing, Peter Arvai, Jon Hall, Tim Cook, Hayley Sudbury, and Megan Smith are some prominent names among the LGBTQ talent.

The courage shown by these tech leaders helped other members of society to create a safer space for the LGBTQ community. Today, several companies offer an inclusive environment for LGBTQ talent.

Turing also believes in providing a safe platform for everyone, irrespective of gender identity and sexual orientation. And so, the company offers an inclusive workspace for the LGBTQ community to learn new skills and grow their careers.

This blog post shares a few inspiring stories of Turing’s LGBTQ employees.

Romulo’s Pride Story

Romulo Espinosa- Member of LGBTQ Community at Turing

Romulo Espinosa

Speaking about the most challenging part of coming out, Romulo Espinosa, Designer for Developer Success Team, Turing said: “The challenge was to come to terms with my sexual orientation. I was scared that people would look at me differently once they knew I liked men. But once I accepted myself for who I am, the people I loved did the same.”

When asked how he came across his sexual orientation, Romulo said: “Like other boys in my teenage years, I too dated girls. Also, I was curious about boys and men, so when I started going out with boys, I soon realized that I liked boys more. At first, it was not easy for me to accept the attraction toward boys. A friend who was openly gay had a loving family, inspiring me to come out to my family at 19. Soon I was out everywhere, my parents loved me for who I am, and I accepted myself openly.”

Romulo also touched upon the culture at Turing. “I like how inclusive and diverse the culture is at Turing. I love my frequent interaction with my team during happy hours. I do not have to hide anything and can talk openly about my partner,” he explained.

Romulo also added: “Turing makes employees feel like an important part of the organization. Turing is a safe space for LGBTQ talent. Developers can learn new skills and grow their careers. The Turing team also uplifts LGBTQ voices by hosting events like #PrideAtTuring. Such events show that Turing is a truly inclusive space for all employees.”

On being a queer in the tech world, Romulo said: “I would like to see a more equal world. A world in which companies include members of the LGBTQ community on merit. Everyone in the world should have a workplace environment where they can truly be themselves. Such an environment will inspire others to come out and live their true lives. I think Turing is helping us create that world.”

Rakel’s Pride Story

Rakel Cogliatti - Member of LGBTQ Community at Turing

Rakel Cogliatti

Speaking about her initial years and coming out, Rakel Cogliatti, Senior Learning and Development Specialist at Turing, said: “Growing up in a Brazilian Catholic family, the possibility of having a same-sex partner seemed impossible to me for many years. After turning 27, and being in a serious relationship with my partner, I decided to come out to my family. The process was scary as I thought my family wouldn’t accept me. It was easier for me to come out to my friends as they already accepted my sexuality.”

Rakel also touched upon prejudices against the LGBTQ community in society. She said: “The most aggressive form of prejudice I encountered was while searching for apartments. Whenever my partner and I went out searching for an apartment, they would reject us. We had to visit 12 apartments before we got our place.”

Rakel expressed the importance of a safe environment for the LGBTQ community, whether at the school, workplace, or home, and how Turing offers the same. She explained: “I feel fortunate to work at Turing because I don’t have to worry about my sexual identity. I can be myself and discuss things apart from work during the weekly happy hours. One day my colleagues wanted to meet my wife during our call, so I asked her to join us, and it was such a sweet moment. I believe every workplace should be as inclusive as Turing.”

Rakel further added: “Every member of the LGBTQ community understands the importance of a support group. Turing is building a diverse workplace free of bias and discrimination to offer strong support to the LBGTQ community. The Turing community is helping developers navigate and grow in their careers, regardless of gender or race. I am very proud to be a part of this community and help LGBTQ developers build their tech careers.”

Samuel’s Pride Story

Samuel Sinzza- Member of LGBTQ Community at Turing

Samuel Sinzza

Speaking about his first day at Turing, Samuel Sinzza, Senior Developer Success Specialist from the Developer Success Team, Turing said: “I remember coming out to my colleagues on my first day at Turing. I showed them a picture of my boyfriend and me. Everyone was so accepting. I knew Turing was the right place for me.”

Samuel further added: “Turing has a multicultural team with different backgrounds. However, despite the diversity, no one feels judged. The open and inclusive environment provides a good atmosphere for members of the LGBTQ community.”

On being a queer in tech, Samuel expressed: “I would like to see more LGBTQ talent in the tech space. The LGBTQ community still faces a lot of discrimination in the physical workplace. With an inclusive remote work environment like Turing, we can help people feel more comfortable.”

Samuel also added: “At Turing, regularly, I see that so many developers get life-changing opportunities. They make great careers regardless of their sexuality and gender. #PrideAtTuring is an event that is helping developers get such life-changing opportunities and celebrate their unique identities.”

Hassan’s Pride Story

Hassan Mirza - Member of LGBTQ Community at Turing

Hassan Mirza

Speaking about his initial years Hass, Senior Manager of Global Communities at Turing, said: “Childhood was tough. I didn’t fit in and struggled to make friends. I discovered a passion for theater in my teenage years, and the theater community felt like a safe place to come out.”

Hassan added: “As I grew older and gained more confidence, I started studying gay rights, which led to my first role as an editorial assistant at Gay.com. After a few years, I went to work for Grindr, an online dating app for LGBTQ. I helped Grindr develop its employer brand. Given the nature of their business, it was difficult for them to hire senior-level engineers. So, I developed a solid strategy to help them attract, engage and retain top talent.”

“During the pandemic, I was at a career crossroads, so I took a course in product management. I started working with HOUSE, a community of queer and trans people of color thriving at the intersection of tech and culture. This job gave me a safe space to form lasting friendships with people from other identities.”

About Turing, Hassan said: “When I joined the Turing company, I liked the culture and how well-functioning the organization is being remote-first.”

On celebrating Pride Month, Hassan noted: “I love celebrating Pride Month. Pride may seem like a superfluous expression of euphoria and sexual freedom to some people. But the LGBTQ community faces a lot of challenges and rejection at home,  at work, and in society. Pride Month is a way of celebrating our differences and overcoming adversity. That’s why we host events like #PrideAtTuring to support and guide developers and promote true friendship at the workplace.”

Turing Announces the Launch of Women in Tech Week

Turing.com announces the launch of Women in Tech Week, a four-day virtual event to guide, inspire, accelerate, & support women through their engineering careers.

Hello ladies,

As a woman in tech who has been in the industry for quite some time, the topic of diversity, equity, and inclusion is very important to me and everyone here at Turing. We believe that talent is everywhere, but we understand that opportunities are not. And hence, our mission is to unleash the world’s untapped human potential and level the playing field for women in tech across the globe.

According to a global software developer survey in 2021, female developers amounted to only five percent of all respondents. This figure shows that female software developers are significantly underrepresented in the tech field.

What is the Turing.com #WomenInTechWeek, and why should you be a part of it?

Turing.com women in tech week announcement

Most importantly, the event will include our new signature program, Jump Start, set to go live on March 24.

What is Jump Start, and how can it help you?

Jump Start is designed to help you complete 80 percent of Turing’s vetting process. The program offers hands-on sessions on topics, including Turing tests and coding challenges, technical interviews, and resume improvement. Jump Start can help boost your chances of getting matched with full-time, long-term, remote US software jobs with competitive compensation, exciting problems to solve, and a talented peer network to scale up your career journey.

Principles Turing.com swears by

At Turing, we are building the most career-centric developer community in the world with a keen focus on three principles.

Principle One: Diversity

A diverse workplace embraces people, regardless of gender, color, age, ethnicity, physical ability, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, and so on. Diversity in the workplace means the acceptance of people of all backgrounds.

At Turing, we have employees from over 130 countries virtually coming together and collaborating on projects every day. And being a company that values diversity, we acknowledge the strengths, weaknesses, and differences of every developer, enabling them to make the most of their potential.

Principle Two: Equity

Where there is equity, there is equal opportunity. Equity in a workplace ensures fair and dignified treatment for everyone. There’s transparency to cause and effect.

And thus, we focus on empowering women developers by leveling the playing field for every one of them, irrespective of their backgrounds. In other words, providing all developers with the same growth opportunities is what drives us.

Principle Three: Inclusion

Inclusion in the workplace is vital for any company aiming to foster connection with and among employees. Developers positively engage with companies that have a strong sense of inclusivity.

Therefore, we are devoted to building an inclusive community that nurtures a sense of belonging in developers—a community that enables developers to voice their opinions, participate in decision-making processes, and feel welcome and valued for their contributions to the company.

Here’s what the ladies at Turing have to say about effectively navigating the world of software engineering as women: Watch the video.

Remote work offers several benefits. It gives you the freedom to choose when you work, where you work, and gives you the freedom to spend quality time with your family and friends. We want our developers to have all of that!
All you have to do is head to Turing’s hiring page, sign-up for the vetting process, and successfully pass the tests to get matched for remote software developer jobs. Furthermore, you don’t have to pay anyone to find a job with Turing!
  3. Turing tests: How do I prepare for Turing?

Applying for a remote job in the US requires you to have excellent communication skills. In addition to this, you must be able to understand and communicate in English.
As a software developer, you should be knowledgeable of the advancements in your particular field. So, keep up with the latest trends. According to our experience, successful developers spend around 1-2 weeks preparing on coding practice platforms such as Leetcode, HackerRank, etc. Leveraging these platforms help in polishing your technical skills!
Please note that you’ll be spending anywhere between three to six hours on the programming tests.
Again, the tests aren’t easy as we pride ourselves on hiring the best talent worldwide. Our developers also recommend reading through code created by other developers, which are available on open-source platforms such as GitHub.

Most googled questions about Turing jobs: How to get started?

Turing’s vetting process has the following steps:
    1. Upload your resume
    2. Get your work experience assessed
    3. Go through tech stack tests (Algorithm challenges)
    4. Take the coding challenge
After this, you will receive an onboarding call from Turing. And don’t worry if you fail the first time. Many of our successful developers failed some of our tests when they first started.

You will be allowed to take a retest after three months. This way, you’ll pick up right from where you left. We get a bit of backlash from developers who cannot clear the tests in their first attempt, but that’s okay. We suggest that you invest the three-month gap working on the test sections where you need improvement.

Turing Review: How Much Do Developers Earn with Turing?

Remote software developers from across the world answer much-debated questions: What are Turing salaries like? How much do Turing jobs pay? Updated for 2024.

Talent is universal, but opportunity is not. For this reason, Turing aims to democratize career opportunities for exceptional software developers. The organization’s intelligent talent cloud provides long-term, remote, Silicon Valley-caliber jobs to engineers across the globe. Though this blog post does not reveal actual Turing salaries, it summarizes the developers’ opinions on their overall income levels after joining the organization.

Turing is devoted to helping engineers find great jobs with leading firms. The organization recently earned a coveted spot on Forbes’ List of America’s Best Startup Employers for two consecutive years i.e., in 2021 and 2022. In addition, in a recent survey conducted by the company, an astounding 100 percent of the surveyed developers shared that Turing is “much better” (82%) or “better” (18%) than other remote work platforms.

Turing.com Salary: Remote Developer Jobs Survey

Turing Developer Survey: An astounding 100 percent of the surveyed developers revealed that Turing is better than other remote work platforms.

But let’s head over to the main question.

How much do Turing jobs pay?

While money is not the only factor motivating employees to do their best, it’s certainly a primary consideration. A recent study quotes “unsatisfactory salary” as the most significant factor responsible for employees quitting. It is evident that even if employees enjoy their work, they have no qualms about moving to a different organization if a competitive salary isn’t part of the picture. To get the skinny, we reached out to some of Turing’s developers to learn ‘How much do Turing developers earn?’

A Turing salary is higher than the market average in most countries

In a recent study, 87 percent of employers said their company is experiencing skill gaps. Ninety-five percent said it’s difficult to recruit skilled professionals. The message is clear: There is only so much top-tier talent out there. If organizations want to attract the best people, they need to compensate them well. Employers that do not offer competitive pay put themselves out of the race when hiring great talent.

Turing recruits the best minds in the field. And the best talent, deserves the best pay.

Here’s what Dhey, a software engineer from India, had to say on Turing’s pay policy: “I was working at Amazon for two years. But with Turing, I feel like I have the best of both worlds—I work in Silicon Valley from my home, with amazing pay, and incredible growth opportunities.”

Another developer from Brazil, Emerson, says: “My salary is at least 70 percent higher than the market average in my country, and I am just 25 years old! I am also very happy with the appraisal system here. If you’re good at what you do, you will get rewarded! My job pays me well and allows me continuously upskill and learn more in my free time. Most importantly, my work is being recognized by a top US company. This never happened in my earlier 9-5 desk job.”

Alexey, a web developer from Russia, revealed: “I have over 13 years of experience in web development. However, the remote projects in Moscow were not up to my liking. That’s when I found out about Turing. I fell in love with the vibe of this organization. My earnings have doubled since I joined Turing, and my career is growing very fast.”

Yet another developer from Nigeria, Aliyu, shared: “[Because of Turing] I have a much higher income and a stable job with a US-based company. Here, there’s more respect, more freedom, more salary—basically more of everything! It’s hard to think about how many talented developers spend hours applying for mediocre jobs when they can apply to such amazing jobs at Turing.”

Turing developers have high productivity and retention rates

Low salaries lead to high turnover, costing companies vast amounts of money. But that’s not all. Low wages often result in low productivity. Poorly remunerated employees are less invested in their jobs. While employees receiving higher salaries, know that the organization values them. Better pay also incentivizes a culture of high output.

High productivity and retention rates are a reflection of a solid team. Therefore, Turing offers competitive salaries to ensure that its employees are well-compensated, motivating them to go above and beyond.

A Colombia-based developer, Juan, shared: “I am definitely not going back to freelancing again! [Turing] pays developers what they’re worth. When I was freelancing, I got low rates, and I had to work with super demanding customers. I often did the work of both—the designer and the developer, for the price of one! Sure, I was working hard but was unable to make good money. I’ve been a part of Turing for 14 months now. They promised me a steady income, timely payments, and opportunities to work on interesting projects when I joined. I’m happy to say the company has delivered on all its promises! It sounds too good to be true, but it’s not!”

Juan, a full-stack developer from Argentina, added: “I remember googling ‘Turing software engineer salary’ on multiple occasions before joining this organization. I was not sure what to expect. But now, I’m pretty sure that I’ll be staying with this organization for a long time. I earn twice as much compared to my last job and work on projects that challenge me and broaden my skill set. So far, it’s been a great ride!”

Turing jobs aim to promote employee well-being

A low salary often leads to stress impacting both health and work. And thus, Turing is dedicated to helping employees accomplish their professional and personal aspirations through a healthy compensation and work schedule.

Manaf, a front-end developer from Jordan, said: “Apart from work, I spend most of the time with my family. I am happier to say that I now live a happier and healthier life. I am also doing well financially because my job provides me with higher compensation. I save a lot of money as I work from home!”

James, from Kenya, shared: “My experience with Turing remote jobs has been phenomenal for me. I start my day by hitting the gym. Then, I manage my chores and watch my favorite movies. I feel more productive and creative with the kind of flexibility Turing has.”

Turing Salary Review: Peter on ‘How Much Do Turing Jobs Pay?’

Peter, a full-stack developer from Nigeria, added: “I used to be a teacher five years ago. But now I’m doing what I love—building software! I have also started feeling more confident [about my career] and seeing rapid growth in it. My income is exceptional compared to local salaries. I bought my own dream house within eight months of joining. I have accomplished all things that I couldn’t three years ago.”

A full-stack engineer from Columbia, Sergio, noted: “This remote software developer job has changed my life completely. I am [way more] productive now. Earning in dollars has strengthened my financial health. Moreover, Turing has fulfilled my dream of being a digital nomad. Next week, I’ll be working from a different country.”

Frequently, the best talent gets poached by hiring managers and head-hunters. However, a well-compensated culture encourages employees to commit to their jobs for the long haul. Turing believes that the true strength of an organization lies with its people—and great talent should always be well-rewarded.

So, how much do Turing developers earn every year?

The answer is simple. Turing developers earn competitive salaries that surpass the market average in most countries.

The organization sees its developers and employees as valuable, appreciating assets. So rather than limiting the profits to executives and investors, Turing shares the company’s success with people who add value to the organization—the employees. In addition, it aims to push a culture of equity, one employee at a time.

If you’re a brilliant developer looking for remote software jobs in any of these skills, Turing may be able to help you very quickly. Head over to our Jobs page to know more!

Hack The Rare Hackathon: Turing Developers Come Together to Build Software for Rare Disease Treatments

At Hack The Rare Hackathon, Turing developers teamed up with OpenTreatments Foundation to build software to support the development of rare disease treatments.

Today, software is everywhere. From addressing our daily needs to solving complex engineering problems, software is transforming almost every industry.

Medical treatments are no exception. By enabling the treatment of unusual diseases, software has helped save lives. However, there is still tremendous opportunity for technology to help scientists discover treatments and cures for rare illnesses.

To find out if software engineers can create novel solutions to save lives, Turing organized the “Hack The Rare” hackathon. Participating engineers built open-source software tools to support the development of treatments for rare, devastating diseases affecting 400 million patients worldwide. The event, organized in collaboration with OpenTreatments Foundation, brought together talented developers from around the world.

Why a hackathon?

Most rare diseases have too few patients for biotech companies to develop treatments profitably. For many atypical ailments, patients must take the lead to develop treatments for their conditions by starting a non-profit organization, learning the science, and partnering with researchers. For this hackathon, software developers worldwide came together for four days between April 23rd and 27th. They built specialized tools to empower such patients to create treatments.

Hack The Rare Projects

The hackathon featured four projects that participants could choose from. The goal of their projects is to help patients get one step closer to life-saving treatments.

  • Patient registry: The first goal for any rare disease is to identify other patients around the world diagnosed with the same illness. For this project, participants created a web or mobile app for newly diagnosed patients to register and associate themselves with the disease in question.
  • Activity tracker: Patients with rare diseases often struggle with basic activities such as sleeping, eating, walking, talking, etc. A patient’s activity is one of the most reliable indicators of their disease’s progression and their treatment’s effectiveness. In this project, participants created a web or mobile app to help patients track and record their activities and identify abnormal patterns.
  • Data vault: Storing data from research experiments is one of the hardest challenges for patients. Data is typically stored in hard drives or cloud drives without proper labeling and tracking. In this project, participants created a data vault to help patient-led organizations securely store files,  connect them to research projects, and share with individuals in need.
  • Materials API: Biomedical research involves physical materials such as reagents, animals, cells, chemicals, etc. When patients begin research to find a treatment, they struggle to find suitable materials to get started. In this project, participants created an API or web app to store, retrieve, and order such materials.

Throughout, participants applied their tech skills to build innovative software solutions. OpenTreatments Foundation’s CEO Sanath Kumar Ramesh carefully evaluated the projects to identify the winners.

Hack The Rare WinnersThe first prize went to a team led by Favour Ori. Favour and his fellow engineers Fawas Kareem and Oluwatunmise Adenuga worked on building a patient registry project. Badis Marabet won second prize for his solo registry project.

If you are a passionate software developer hoping to make an impact, you can apply to become a Turing remote developer and shape the boundaryless ecosystem. You can also make your mark on rare disease treatments by contributing to the development of the OpenTreatments software platform. Check out their source code on Github.

Turing Named One of America’s Best Startup Employers for 2021 by Forbes

Turing ranked 16th out of the 500 companies selected for Forbes’ list of America’s Best Startup Employers for 2021.

Turing.com has earned a coveted spot on Forbes’ List of America’s Best Startup Employers for 2021. Out of 500 companies named to the illustrious list, Turing ranked 6th in the Business Products and Software Services category and 16th overall.

Leading media outlet Forbes teamed up with market research firm Statista to identify fast-growing startups that employees love. Forbes lauded the selected employers for “attracting and engaging employees through virtual games, classes, and support systems in a year unlike any other.”

Forbes compiled the list using an innovative methodology based on three key factors, namely employer reputation, employee satisfaction, and growth. Ultimately, Forbes made their selections through an in-depth analysis of over 7 million data points. Out of 10,000 eligible American businesses, only 500 firms made it to Forbes’ list of the best startup employers.

To Turing, this recognition is more meaningful, especially because of its exclusively remote workforce. The company works hard to cultivate an inclusive, positive, and engaging work culture for its globally distributed team of employees.

The accolade is a testament to how united Turing’s team members are behind the company’s mission to source, vet, hire, match, and manage remote software developers for top-tier US companies. Driven by the company’s core values of continuous improvement, speed, and focus on long-term customer-centricity, Turing’s employees are dedicated to shaping the future of work.

What’s more, Turing has witnessed exponential growth in the past year and a half, adding several brilliant, highly-skilled employees to its global team. The company continues to grow in size and strength in tandem with its thriving and rapidly multiplying base of 300K developers looking to find jobs with top US companies.

“We’re thrilled to be named one of America’s Best Startup Employers by Forbes,” said Turing CEO and co-founder Jonathan Siddharth. “Our employees are the backbone of our organization. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together. This accolade will help accelerate our mission to hire the best talent in the world, irrespective of location.”

The Forbes honor comes close on the heels of other industry-wide recognitions for Turing, such as its inclusion in Fast Company’s prestigious list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2021.

You can find Forbes’ complete list of America’s Best Startup Employers here. While evaluating Turing, Forbes reviewed articles, blogs, social media posts, Turing’s online reviews, website traffic, and company headcounts. To learn more about the Forbes methodology in detail, head here.

Benefits of working remotely, like work-life balance and flexibility, are making employees prioritize remote work, affecting the hiring strategy.
The Future of Work Turing Community

Turing Engineers Are Set to Succeed with These Companies Leading the Work-From-Home Revolution

Benefits of working remotely, like work-life balance and flexibility, are making employees prioritize remote work, affecting the hiring strategy.

It’s almost stopped being a surprise anymore. As each new announcement comes in of work-from-home policies being extended later and later than previously planned, most of us have stopped questioning, wondering, or even worrying. If anything, we find ourselves signing into our next scheduled Zoom meeting a little relieved. “Why would I even want to go back to the office?”

With at least half of the American workforce working from home, remote work is the new normal. And, as major company after major company announces their plans to extend remote work policies for the long term, it’s looking like this new normal won’t be ending any time soon. Here’s the break down:

Twitter

In many respects, Twitter was the trendsetter that made a more all-in approach to remote work “cool.” It was back in early May when Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey sent an email to all Twitter employees saying that they can continue working for home for as long as they see fit. That means remote work at Twitter can continue for as long as…forever. A spokesperson for Twitter revealed that this decision stemmed from Twitter’s “emphasis on decentralization and supporting a distributed workforce capable of working from anywhere.”

Square

Jack Dorsey is also CEO of Square, which is why the mobile payments company was quick to echo Twitter’s earlier announcement and make work from home a permanent option. And yes, they did use the word permanent.

Facebook

Just last week, Facebook announced its decision to extend the work-from-home option to July 2021. Although this policy change was largely driven by ongoing COVID concerns, in a live-stream posted to his Facebook page, Mark Zuckerberg revealed that he is also catching on to the larger vision of the future of work: “When you limit hiring to people who live in a small number of big cities, or who are willing to move there, that cuts out a lot of people who live in different communities, have different backgrounds, have different perspectives” It’s clear that Zuckerburg has seen the potential of remote work to advance opportunities for talent around the world. To his staff, he pitched the idea as a way of creating “more broad-based economic prosperity.” With this vision for the future, Zuckerberg has announced that it is going to “aggressively” ramp up the hiring of remote workers. The Facebook CEO now predicts that 50% of the company’s employees could be working remotely in the next 5 to 10 years.

Google

At about the same time as Facebook, Google also announced that its employees will have the option to continue working from home until at least July 2021. With concerns for how the COVID pandemic will impact families (especially given the possibility of having to provide home-schooling for children) Google CEO Sundar Pichai wrote to his employees that he hopes the remote work policy “will offer the flexibility you need to balance work with taking care of yourselves and your loved ones over the next 12 months.”

Shopify

Back in May, Shopify joined Twitter in giving its employees the option to continue working from home indefinitely. Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke is also looking beyond the current COVID concerns and seeing the vision for the future of work. In a tweet, he explained that “COVID is challenging us all to work together in new ways. We choose to jump in the driver’s seat, instead of being passengers to the changes ahead. We cannot go back to the way things were. This isn’t a choice; this is the future.” What is this new future? Lutke made it very clear: “Office centricity is over”

What this means
With such large and influential tech companies like these transitioning to more permanent remote-work policies, it has never been a better time to be a Turing engineer. Opportunity is spreading across the globe. Silicon Valley is growing and Turing engineers are uniquely positioned to ride the wave of remote work jobs that is already here (with more coming). Like Zuckerberg’s sentiment, it’s time to stop cutting off the many brilliant and talented engineers who live in “different communities, have different backgrounds, and different perspectives.”
